About the program…
The presentation will cover "beyond the basics" planning with
charitable lead trusts and
charitable remainder trusts, including planning and pitfall
considerations when using the IRS model trust forms. The speaker
will discuss charitable split interest trust planning in a low
interest rate environment, as well as some relevant new developments
and drafting issues.
Ellen E. Halfon,
JD practices law
at Jones Day in the areas of estate planning and estate
administration, primarily focusing on sophisticated tax planning for
high net worth clients. In connection with this practice, Ellen
specializes in charitable planning, including tax planning through
the use of
charitable trusts and other charitable vehicles. She also
counsels numerous tax-exempt organizations in areas such as
endowment development and planned giving,
unrelated business taxable income and state and federal
compliance issues. She has significant experience in establishing
and advising charitable trusts, corporate and family
private foundations
and publicly supported charities. Ellen is a member of the
American Bar
Association (Tax Section, Exempt Organizations Committee),
Ohio State Bar
Association, The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the
Estate Planning
Council of Cleveland and Northern Ohio Planned Giving
Council. She serves on the Planned Giving
Advisory Councils
for The
Cleveland Museum of Art, The Cleveland Orchestra, the Jewish
Community Federation of Cleveland,
Case Western Reserve University , the Diamond Advisory Group
at University
Hospitals and on the board of Interfaith Hospitality
Network. Ms. Halfon is admitted to practice law in
California and
Ohio . She received a B.A. in Music from
Immaculate Heart
College and her JD from
Loyola Law School
where she was Editor of Law
Review.
