The Association of Fundraising
Professionals (AFP)
represents more
than 30,000 members in 200 chapters throughout the world, working to
advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and
certification programs. Founded in 1960 and formerly known as the
National Society of Fundraising Executives (NSFRE), the association
fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and
promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession. For

So that it can
promote stewardship and ethical fundraising, AFP:

Requires members to
comply with a Code of Ethical Principles and Standards
that is designed to provide concrete guidelines for fundraising
professionals in philanthropic organizations.

Supports
Chapter activities such as educational seminars,
networking events and other opportunities to learn and share
fundraising expertise at the local level.

Operates the Fundraising
Resource Center, a comprehensive collection of periodicals and
audio/visual materials on philanthropy, which
AFP members
can request for free.

Provides educational
programs including the annual International Conference on
Fundraising; First Course in Fundraising; CFRE Review Course and
Audioconferences.

Sponsors the
AFP Website
(www.afpnet.org)
to
provide
all of the latest news, information, updates and analysis from
around the nonprofit sector, the fundraising profession and AFP.
Members can also take courses online, participate in online
discussions, browse job listings, and renew their membership.

Raises public awareness of
fundraising through programs such as National Philanthropy Day®
each November, Youth in Philanthropy, and the AFP Awards for
Philanthropy.

Provides eWire,
a weekly email newsletter covering fundraising news; Public
Policy Updates and Action Alerts on government
relations issues; and Advancing Philanthropy, a
bimonthly magazine with practical fundraising advice and
information.

Maintains A Donor
Bill of Rights, a document that outlines what donors have
the right to expect from charitable organizations to which they
contribute.

Is a founder and
current participant in Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)
International. The CFRE credential, held by more than 4,900
fundraisers, verifies experience and knowledge of fundraising
and philanthropy.

Supports legislation
and regulations to encourage philanthropic giving and ethical
fundraising.
