NOT A MEMBER OF AFP?

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) represents more than 30,000 members in 200 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs.  Founded in 1960 and formerly known as the National Society of Fundraising Executives (NSFRE), the association fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession. For more information visit www.afpnet.org.

So that it can promote stewardship and ethical fundraising, AFP:

  • Requires members to comply with a Code of Ethical Principles and Standards that is designed to provide concrete guidelines for fundraising professionals in philanthropic organizations.

  • Supports Chapter activities such as educational seminars, networking events and other opportunities to learn and share fundraising expertise at the local level.

  • Operates the Fundraising Resource Center, a comprehensive collection of periodicals and audio/visual materials on philanthropy, which AFP members can request for free.

  • Provides educational programs including the annual International Conference on Fundraising; First Course in Fundraising; CFRE Review Course and Audioconferences.

  • Sponsors the AFP Website (www.afpnet.org) to provide all of the latest news, information, updates and analysis from around the nonprofit sector, the fundraising profession and AFP. Members can also take courses online, participate in online discussions, browse job listings, and renew their membership.

  • Raises public awareness of fundraising through programs such as National Philanthropy Day® each November, Youth in Philanthropy, and the AFP Awards for Philanthropy.

  • Provides eWire, a weekly email newsletter covering fundraising news; Public Policy Updates and Action Alerts on government relations issues; and Advancing Philanthropy, a bimonthly magazine with practical fundraising advice and information.

  • Maintains A Donor Bill of Rights, a document that outlines what donors have the right to expect from charitable organizations to which they contribute.

  • Is a founder and current participant in Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) International. The CFRE credential, held by more than 4,900 fundraisers, verifies experience and knowledge of fundraising and philanthropy.

  • Supports legislation and regulations to encourage philanthropic giving and ethical fundraising.
